Postnatal Doula

Having a baby is very exciting and enjoyable but it’s also a big transition. You’re recovering from pregnancy and birth, while coping with the demands a newborn baby brings.

The postnatal period can be challenging and even lonely especially when your partner has a full time job and your family lives far away. This is when a Postnatal Doula can ease your journey into the new motherhood.

I will nurture the family and support the birthing person, bringing assurance in gentle, non-judgemental way whilst you find your feet, and enabling you to get some much needed rest.

I will listen to your questions and enable you to develop your own unique parenting style but I will also encourage you to bond and fall in love with your newborn baby by being kind to yourself, promoting a gentle feeling of warmth and care.

Henna was very helpful in assisting me during the recovery period after my c-section. Henna is a very kind and gentle doula who is also a very good listener and has this natural talent at soothing my baby girl. I always looked forward to her visits. Henna’s banana bread and choc chips biscuits are so yummy! She will always hold such a special place in my heart.

Postnatal Doula support begins at anytime after the birth of your baby for a minimum of 4 hours per day, for as many days or weeks as you choose. This could be as few as 4 visits or for weeks or even a few months, it’s entirely based on the personal needs of your family. Every family’s requirements are different and I always tailor my service according your needs.

I have a soft spot for twins. I really enjoy supporting families with multiples. So far I have over 600 hours of experience taking care of newborn twins during the day and overnight.

Here’s some examples of care I could provide for you and your family to ensure you get a chance to bond with your baby and truly enjoy the first weeks or months of your new family:

  • Emotional support for your new transitioning family.
  • Breastfeeding or bottle feeding support.
  • Taking care of your baby whilst you have a nap or want to get out and get some fresh air.
  • Newborn care: supporting with bathing, feeding, showing some soothing techniques etc.
  • Helping with light household duties like laundry, emptying dishwasher, changing bedsheets, hoovering etc.
  • Running errands.
  • Preparing grocery lists and shopping or helping with online deliveries.
  • Light meal preparation based on the nutritional needs of postpartum women.
  • Baking yummy biscuits or cakes.
  • Accompanying mother and baby to midwife/doctor appointments.
  • Helping you to organise a christening/naming party or sibling’s birthday party.
  • Helping overnight so the parents get more sleep.
  • Unlimited phone and email support.
  • Whatever is needed to help a family relax and have a positive experience of life with a newborn baby.
